In response to Depression Enters Phase Two posted by Normxxx:

Grantham and Das understand the complexity and severity of the credit crisis as well as any analysts I've read. And the conclusion of both of these experts is grim. The credit crisis runs very deep, and is going to have nasty ramifications on the larger economy over a substantial period of time. When I hear all these soothsayers say that the problems are behind us, or we will only have a mild recession if we have any recession at all, or everything is going to bounce back in the "second half", I could gag. The folks making these predictions don't understand the problem in even the most shallow manner. You have to read folks who really understand the problem to understand how bad the problem really is.

They may or they may not; but it is in their interests to make such statements (if only for the psychological boost). 'Wishful thinking' is one of humanities most enduring traits. But you don't want to see 'magical' thinking disappear- with it goes all hope- I saw that among some adults, growing up in the latter stages of the Great Depression. It is still a searing memory.

Enjoy!

Most corporations don't last half that long!
