» allancoleman - GNMAs unchanged today

In response to Yields posted by allancoleman:

Even though the ten year treasury yields closed lower today which normally produces higher nav prices of our favorite Vanguard GNMA funds ( VFIIX & VFIJX ) , they closed unchanged today at $10.43 a share .

Observations :

VFIJX = 2.40% ytd with a 4.88% yield
VBTLX = 2.22% ytd with a 4.47% yield
VMMXX = 1.23% ytd with a 2.39% yield
VMSXX = 0.92% ytd with a 2.61% yield
VWEAX = 1.58% ytd with a 8.24% yield

Stock markets were generally down today .

In response to GNMAs up today ? ? posted by allancoleman:

With the ten year treasury yield trading lower at this moment in the bond market , expect the nav prices of our favorite Vanguard GNMA funds to close higher today . However with the expected continued correction in the stock market this week with options expiration , we could have bonds rally as a safe haven for stock market investors .

I suspect that GNMA nav prices will trade in a fairly narrow range in here until the bond market traders are certain the Fed is truely done cutting rates . We'll know at the next Fed meeting in June . And keep in mind as the summer progresses that the closer to the election we get , the less likely the Fed will do anything until after the election results . Or at least that has been the Fed habit in the past .

Bought my first Van high yield bonds last week,was this a good move? We had our second largest bank go bust friday in Arkansas, 1.7 Billion bank,cost to FDIC 219 million, makes you wonder if this is just the beginning,if this can happen in Po-dunk.

As my original advice , Arkhog , on the Vanguard High - Yield ( junk ) bond funds ( VWEHX & VWEAX ) , any nav price below $6.00 a share I feel will be considered a value later . You only have to put VWEHX on a long term chart and you can see that this fund is seldom below $6.00 a share price just as the Vanguard GNMA ( VFIIX ) is seldom below $10.00 a share price .

Research this Vanguard fund and you'll see that most consider it the best of the junk .

We could have further to go on real estate losses in some areas and some banks , but most feel the bottom may already be in place . At least in my opinion it is . happy

With the ten year treasury yield presently trading quite a bit higher right now in the bond market , looks like the nav prices of our favorite Vanguard GNMAs ( VFIIX & VFIJX ) could close lower today as the stock market appears to be fairly flat at this moment .

Will be working this morning to prepare my VW Eurovan pop top camper for departure to the Fairbanks / North Pole area this Thursday morning for a 6 to 7 day RV trip to take care of real estate business up there this weekend for my first trip this summer up there . Should be back middle of next week to prepare to leave again for my second real estate trip this summer down to Homer , Alaska sometime after the Memorial Day weekend . Good thing I can write off all the expenses as gas reached $4.10 a gallon on that Homer trip and likely to be higher on this Fairbanks / North Pole trip coming up . I'm sure before the summer driving season is over with , I'll easily see $5.00 a gallon or better up here .
