In response to Strong Jobs Report should be good for the market posted by bob90245:

Kirk, as my stock market guru please help me with this...This morining the TV stock market guy said "the market has given up its shorts". Is this like losing the 'shirt or your back'? I'm concerned. Is it time to buy or sell? Thanks,

I agree with your assessment that IBM probably isn't in a true death spiral as well as Xerox . However , I can remember when Xerox was $60 a share just as I remember when IBM was higher too . I think that IBM has addressed reinventing themselves much better than Xerox has , although both employ fewer people now than in their old days .

Xerox always was a expensive copying choice , but in the old days it was worth the extra expense because no one else had the technology . Not the case anymore . I own HP printers too and benefit from their cheap cost and reliability .
I received the article you sent me via email this morning and congradulations on being able to retire at age 41 . Far sooner than my own age 55 . Appreciate your keeping Suite101 on the airways and benefiting us investors allowing others to get critical mass and retire too .

In response to Gaps in Sept Contract posted by Kirk:

Today (especially at 3 am) just didn't RING my BUY bell. Suspect the late day jump was mechanical buying, IMHO.

Next week may proof me wrong and the 3 day pullback may have been a speed bump in the bigger picture, or not.

Anyhow there are always going to be more pullbacks and opportunities. If you're up +20% on something no sense sweating 3-5% sinewaves.

Anything could happen in this crap shoot we call the market. Now Israel is gearing up for an attack from Syria who have been massing troops and weapons on the Golan border. I'm betting the bluffs are going to turn into fistacuffs and Energy will soar.

There is no limit to human stupidity (even my own).

Well Kirk, having recently completed a refresher course in tiny gaps (AGEN) I think you know where I stand:) We are about half way there so why not take it out and get it off the table. The MACD is heading that way anyway. While we're on the subject, CACS forgot to tag the bag on it's blast-off day also. That was one of three reasons I took some off the table that day. Nothing wrong with a health restoring correction. Regards

In response to NYSE 3.3% Short! posted by Kirk:

I have noted that when short interest spikes up as result of a lot of small investors betting the markets will fall the market generally defies their expectations and generally goes up. You'd think the major investors that appear mostly responsible for the current large short positions ought to be more knowledgeable but the market has a way of making the big bets go south, especially in the near term. Does anyone know about the relative track records of the small vs large investors when they go short?
