Usually not an issue as they (short sellers) know that they will not pick the top. Professional short sellers stay their course just as long term investors,
in the end they are betting they will be right.

I'm getting that awful feeling once again that these markets are about to take another heavy dump... I suspect if we don't recover by this afternoon, that we'll see some heavy selling into the close... I base this hunch on nothing more than a gut feeling...

Quietly, oil has moved up significantly
and this again has ramifications. Also
that jobs report was somewhat deceiving as the service grew it also intra month, reversed it self. Retail is not having a good go of it.

Difficult call today, but as we go into the close, volatilty dropped like a rock and things improved dramaticaly.

GZ - You are correct that most of the experts are projecting a declining dollar in 2007. The herd is often wrong. If the dollar strengthens (as I assume you are suggesting is likely) this should reduce inflationary pressure and give the Fed less concerns about cutting rates. Of course, if the Fed does cut rates that could be good for US stocks but it may also weaken the dollar. All things consider some strengtheniong of the dollar here is probably a good thing for US equities but after the huge run up in equity prices since the June/July double bottom it seems a "correction" is in order. If the "experts" are right and the dollar continues to weaken it seems to me the Fed will be in a damned if you do and damned if you don't position when it comes to cutting rates in 2007. Would you agree?

Yes, I would agree with you completely... I'm long the Dollar as of this past week, and will buy more in this evening's session if I can get a lower price... the Dollar is at a multi-year support level, I say we should see a rally in the Dollar for a few months, at least...

And this strengthing of the dollar should result in Gold dropping in the IT if normalacy prevails. Could be good to hedge both ways? Which index or fund do you buy dollars in?
