I'm really pleased to see how those of you who have personal use of the spiral have been able to time the bottom today, it's great to witness... it's amazing how differently we can look at the market when we have a market compass pointing our way through the wilderness... many congrats and keep up the great work!!!

This morning, along with Kirk's newsletter picks I've been buying, I was going to commit $50K to a SPY ETF. Then I read GZ's post about using the e-mini futures as a broad portfolio investment vehicle. In my head, I had the idea that the futures were short term stuff. So, I bought an e-mini this morning and placed a 'catastrophe' stop WAY down from what I would normally have done. This e-mini was going to be as long term as an SPY buy would have been. So far I'm up 36.5 points on the trade and I have GZ to thank for that.
And thanks to Kirk for keeping up with the tech stocks that I just don't have the time to do myself.

» lcha - Up spiral peek

I just took a look at the up spiral that will be created next week assuming todays low holds.
.
Man, it is HUGE! Even a more 'moderate' up spiral one can draw is slightly less than HUGE.
.
Of course, the way the markets have been behaving lately, next week seems a LONG ways away.

A 250 point rise in the SP's would probably put the DOW above 15,000 and probably closer to 16,000... I have no clue what would make these markets move that much over the next few months, and the spiral is not calling for such a rise in market prices... so to be very clear right here, the spiral is only saying that, IF we actually reach that high at that time, then we will more than likely again have another good correction as we just did in the July/August period... the spiral never makes any predictions that prices are going to rise or fall to any level... the spiral model is reactive, not predictive... I realize I've said this many times, but this forum is being read by lots of people and lots of new readers every day, so it's probably a good idea to make sure we're all on the same page...

Right, thanks for pointing that out... I'm always speaking in terms of limits, not goals. The difference may not be clear if you don't know how the spiral actually works, and I can see how you might be confused, but I hope this clears it up for you. so, let's see if I can make it more clear, I'll rephrase it for you...

Yes, the new up spiral is looking for the 1650ish level, but let me translate that English into English...

I said:

"Right, the coming up spiral is looking for a possible 1650's level some time in mid January 2008, what a beautiful thing!!!"

This means:

"Right, the coming up spiral is looking for a possible 1650's level some time in mid January 2008 (before a major over bought condition can occur), what a beautiful thing!!!"

Again, I'm always referring to limits, not goals... these are not targets, these are prices levels where buying or selling is expected IF we actually get there...

Was this any more clear?

Thanks again for helping me clarify...
